PART TWO • MAHAJANAKA • THE PRINCE OF PERSISTENCE
In the second of the Ten Lives of the Buddha, the Bodhisattva comes
to earth as a prince in the city of Mithila, which is torn
apart by a fratricidal civil war. Leaving the city in
a ship, he is caught in a storm but guided only by his power of endurance,
he swims in the empty sea for many days before being rescued
by the Goddess Mekhala and returned to the world
to fulfil his destiny.
